Re-engineering of an Air Handling Unit
We were approached by a large automotive client who had two old AHU’s that were getting to the end of their economic life. We were asked to survey and offer costs to prolong the lifespan of the plant and also offer any energy savings through utilisation of new technology.
One of the units could only be switched off and worked on over the weekend so as not to affect the manufacturing process and schedules.
We were able to provide new, best in class, EC plug fans. We also fully re-engineered the internal workings of the AHU to fit these in without any loss to performance. This works was completed in only two days, including one day on the weekend, so as not to disrupt the client's manufacturing processes.
Along with a new lifespan of 25-30 years we were also able to save them around £5,500 a year in energy consumption and maintenance costs. The payback period for the job is around five years, which on small equipment is a very good return on their investment. They were also aided by a CAPEX grant to secure the works because of the energy consumption savings.
